Wokeness as The New Substitute for Original Sin

I wrote this up in a jiffy, so I imagine it’s a work in progress

What do people think of the Catholic concept of original sin? The idea that we should walk around with heavy amounts of sin for what Adam and Eve did or whatever? Isn’t that what many liberals find distasteful about the Church?

Then why do those same people believe in the same exact thing for White privilege? It’s one thing to acknowledge privilege and that you got a leg up over other races. But it’s another to think that all our actions should be guided by White guilt over it. I know that’s not the official stance of the social justice movement, but in practice it tends to fall that way.

I met a guy in New Orleans who was so liberal (and also hostile to other members of the community who he didn’t feel passed a purity test), that he felt he shouldn’t be in the 9th Ward of New Orleans doing more volunteer work because the city doesn’t need any more white people (it wasn’t enough for him to move out, however).

The idea that we have to cancel anyone who had slaves before 1865 when it was legal at the time, the idea that we have to take down statues that are often a legitimate part of a city’s tourist industry, the idea that was have to change relatively neutral mascots like Cleveland Indians, local high school with the mascots Raiders or Rebels, or the city of Lynchburg, Virginia(named after a John Lynch) all send strong signals that our present relations with people of different races must…
