Should Tom Cruise be Cancelled for Association to Scientology?
There’s the old saying that a cult plus time equals religion. Our greatest religions were initially accepted as cults and there’s a very thin line between the two.
I see that as the reverse. All religions are capable of cult-like, horrible behavior. I grew up and still am Jewish (a very undemanding, no-frills religion) and have always harassed by evangelical Christians.
There’s almost nothing that I see as moral or remotely truthful about Christianity, yet 90% of the people around me in this country have some association to it, so I have to live with it.
Even my own religion, when practiced in its ultra-orthodox level consists of brainwashing, sheltering kids from information of the outside world, covering up for abuse, etc.
But that being said, I can’t help but notice the bizarre hypocrisy of Christian people having such anger and rage for newer religions like Mormonism.
To a degree, scientology falls in this category. People love to talk about its bizarreness and illegitimacy when there’s almost nothing legitimate about Jesus’s divinity and when they talk about scientology’s harm, they focus on a select few figures rather than equally splitting the blame on every Hollywood person ever to be connected with scientology.
