Self-Check Out Cafeterias: How is This a Thing?

I work at an Amazon warehouse where we have something like the arrangement pictured above.

You pick out whatever food and drinks you want, and then pay for it. I have no idea how this works and it scares me. Is this an honor code system? Because if not, I don’t think I can resist the temptation here to commit a crime.

I mean, what’s the catch? If I pass by one of these, my thought is “I could pay $2 for that cookie, but hold up, wouldn’t it be nicer towards my finances if I don’t pay $2?”

Ethically, this is not taking candy from a baby, but rather a multi-million dollar corporation. Isn’t the world supposed to have safe guards to keep me from morally straying? Don’t the people in charge know that we can’t trust ourselves?

Perhaps the Devil has taken a vacation. Or maybe this is his grand plan…
