Post-Dobbs: The Era of American Depression
Is it me or is there an aura of depression enveloping this country lower than we’ve seen in the Trump era which I have long considered to be a reign of terror of sorts.
The fact remains that a Democrat is president who is not a compulsive psychopath responsible for every one of the seven deadly sins many times over, we just negotiated the first bit of meaningful gun legislation in years, and the January 6th Committee is having quite a bit of success (even in this Orwellian world created by Republicans) in turning the narrative.
But the Supreme Court decisions allowing school prayer, reigning in the EPA’s power to make decisions, stripping women of their reproductive rights while simultaneously giving as many rights as possible to gun owners has really left people depressed. Depression isn’t just feeling sad, but feeling hopeless about the potential for circumstances to improve.
Of course, if you like living in a country where people are allowed to shoot each other (against most studies and the evidence of the rest of the civilized world) carte blanche, the rights of an unformed cluster of cells takes priority over a breathing woman, the environment doesn’t matter, and there is no separation between church and state, then this is a great occasion to celebrate all your dreams coming true.
