I love this unique perspective but there's also another side of the equation which is that I do want to live in an entertainment world where entertainers with proven track records are allowed to continue to make their art. That is also under threat and I think there should be a meritocracy among writers/directors with good track records over the next superhero film.
I know Mike Nicholls and Jonothan Demme, and Stephen Soderbegh had trouble getting movies greenlit because they had mid-budget films that the studios thought wouldn't make them as much as a big action film.
Whether Judd Apatow is your cup of tea he deserves to make a film with leeway because he's had hits. Who he casts is a secondary concern to me and whether you like it or not is also kind of a matter of taste. I thought it was a fine film.
