"All Black students are valuable and deserve a place at elite universities, however, universities such as Brown, who have directly benefited from American slavery, have an obligation to right a historic wrong and provide opportunities for qualified, talented descendants of American slavery. Brown’s decision to cut Track and Field just took 11 of those opportunities away."

It least this argument isn't going so far as to accuse Brown of racism which gets thrown around a lot. I have trouble seeing how Brown is obligated to give black students preferential treatment out of some historical association that's generations old.

Why don't we just make the argument about how black students don't get into Ivy League institutions and then look at that from the perspective of how much affirmative action they get. If the track team is cut but the bar on SAT scores is lowered, for example, Black applicants are still being served pretty well.
